christian quotes, Bible verses
I know Margaret Mead was quoted as saying we only use 6% of our brain capacity & over the years differing percentages have been proffered by others.
It’s been said (and sorry if I am misquoting) that psychics are supposedly tapping into that 94% resource, although I am not of the opinion that they are.
I am working on a movie which shows what happens (granted the 94% can be unlocked) when certain humans are in possession of 100% of brain function. The premise is not whether it is possible, only that given someone is able to unlock that, then the story unfolds from there.
I’d like to hear from creative minds what you think might be unlocked. Remember it is science fiction & is a made up story, so I place no limit on your imagination.
I have a scene by scene summary already of the movie, but it needs some ‘body’, muscle so to speak… any ideas or suggestions might trigger some inspiration for me & I might even use it in the movie when it is made, I might give you credit for it too
If this is an urban myth, can you direct me to links with supportive evidence? Thanks. Most interesting.
Thank you Eri *you gave me a good idea how to tackle the original experiment) and Peter D. for valid info. And yes, for the one who said ‘You!” I had a good laugh at my own expense. Delightful!

This is a complete myth. I know in 1998 the U.S. Satellite Broadcasting company used it in some magazine ads, a photo of the brain with ‘You only use 11% of its potential.’ Many psychics point this out to explain their ‘gift’.
This myth has been disproved with a variety of scientific methods. For instance, brain imaging techniques such as PET and MRI scans show that no part of the brain lies unused. While you certainly don’t use all parts of your brain at one time, different activities will use different parts of your brain (eating, watching TV, talking to someone all use different parts of the brain). While you may not use all parts at once, over the span of an entire day, however, you will most likely use all of your brain.
However, just because this is a myth, does not mean you can’t proceed with your movie! Sci-fi is called sci-fi for a reason, it’s fiction and you are free to expound on the real and the unreal. The movie premise sounds interesting.
I have some suggestions from what I can gather from different movies and shows that have explored this same theory. Mostly it involves unlocking paranormal abilities.
* Clairvoyance – Sometimes an ability to see into the future (not necessarily at will, random visions sometimes). Other times the ability to see auras, ghosts, etc.
* Telekinesis – Unlocking the 94% gives you an ability to move things with your mind?
* Out of body experience (astral projection) – The ability to, at will (or perhaps sometimes not at all) to ‘leave’ your body behind and travel around as a ghost of sorts.
* Telepathy – The ability to read minds.
* Pyrokinesis – The ability to start or extinguish fires with the mind.
* Psychometry – Somewhat like clairvoyance. The ability to read information from objects (example:. a person with this could touch a murder weapon and see who used it).
These are just a few examples. Good luck with your movie!
First of all Margaret Mead was a cultural anthropologist, not a neurologist. So she knows about as much about brain use and activity as any man on the street. Secondly, she has shown herself to be a liability to science when it comes to keeping her head out of the clouds. It’s her fault the Parapsychological Association has membership in the AAAS.
The whole 10% thing is a myth. We use all of our brains at one time or another. (Why else would we have it?) And if we were only using 6% of it, that doesn’t mean the other 94% could move paperclips or see the future. I don’t want to ruin your story, but you might be a bit embarrassed if you wrote a story whose primary premise is fictional.

That’s an urban legend. We use 100% of our brain, just not all the time. The 10% or less thing is just a myth, it’s been proved wrong over and over by CAT scans and MRIs.
There is no part of your brain that allows you to break the laws of physics. But if you do a little research on what we know about the brain, you could maybe write about someone with a larger piece of the brain than normal – although Einstein’s brain was of normal weight, he did have a few larger-than-normal regions.
EDIT: Here you go.
