I have just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have a ten day wait before seeing a specialist.
I am 29 weeks preg with second child. (Did not have it in 1st preg.)

What type of things should I be doing to assist in keeping this under control?
What can I expect from my visit to the endocronologist?
Any experiences that would be beneficial for me to be aware of.

Thanks for your help and answers

I had gestational diabetes with all my pregnancy as well as now that I am on my 4th pregnancy. What I did to control your diabetes during pregnancy is to watch what you are consuming. Check your diabetes every day and keep it under 120. (that’s where I had to be) and drink alot of water.. Its only during pregnancy that you have the diabetes and will go away right after the birth of your baby. But big possibility that you will develope regular diabetes later on. Not necessarily! main thing to look for and watch out for is what you are consuming make sure uts healthy for you and baby.

I was gestational diabetic. The doctor will have you meet with a dietitian. The dietitian will map out a meal plan for you. I followed it, and it was great, really taught me the correct way to eat and during my pregnancy, I did not gain much weight at all. After I delivered my baby, within weeks I was much smaller than I had been before becoming pregnant. People asked me, if I had really had a baby.

During pregnancy, you must keep the diabetes under control. The best way is through the diabetic diet, if you do not do that they will have to give you insulin. If you do not keep it under control, it can be very dangerous for you and for your baby.

I also had to stick myself and test my blood sugar levels before and after every meal. But by religiously following the diet, I really learned what I could skimp on and what I could not to kee everything under control.

A lot of people told me that since I was gestational diabetic, that I was proned to becoming diabetic, so I would need to get checked on a routine basis. My daughter is now 11 years old, and do not have diabetes, but it does run in my family
