Newspapers reports earlier in the week suggested that up to six players had committed to the new franchise next year, despite being contracted to their current AFL clubs for 2010.

BQ….How would you feel if 1 or 2 star players from your team have signed?

  1. The Chair Wizard VIII says:

Yes I believe they should reveal their names

BQ: I would be shattered, If that happens then my team may not cope as well as they are coping at the moment.

  2. "J-Shizzle69" says:

    no

  3. Nightskald says:

If the star players in question were out of contract, I wouldn’t have a problem with it – we have a lot of young players coming up in the ranks and they will be competitive to grab a spot in the senior 22.

If they walked out on the club with contract years remaining, I’d be disappointed and disillusioned – something I guess some fans of the Eagles and Saints might be (the Eagles for Judd, the Saints for Ball), but at the end of the day it’s their decision, and I’d still back my team regardless.

If I can keep with them during the wooden spoon years, I can keep with the Blues through anything – even if I don’t agree with everything going on in the club, or with the behaviour of some of the senior players who should know better.

I don’t think The Gold Coast franchise should name the players this year – they’re not in the league this season, so it doesn’t affect this year’s outcome.

The teams who have players leaving will know – but for now, they’ll concentrate on doing their level best to win the flag, as they do every other year in the competition.

  4. SANDIEE LOVES THE GLOVE says:

About a year ago I heard that Mark Nickoski was involved with the Gold Coast footy club, if he had signed on and was currently still playing for the eagles and I found out now he had signed on – I would frown upon him and wouldnt enjoy watching him play footy. Leave it till the end of the year, dont spoil it now.

  5. Lexicographer says:

Would you deem it wise to walk up to your boss today and say “In 8 months time I’m quitting,. Your opposition company has offered me a better deal & I’ve accepted ” I think not, and the AFL Clubs are now defined as workplaces – just like yours. The term “shooting yourself in the foot” comes to mind.
BQ. Once a contract has expired and both parties have met their obligations 100% then if a player chooses not to stay & they have another club to go to — that’s business.— like it or lump it !!

  6. shifty says:

hey kev. are you asking if they have any luggage that they wish to declare?
i thought that this team was simply put there for afl players who wish to retire on the gold coast.
because in their intrim stage i cant see this club being usefull for anything else ok.
    cheers mate.

  7. mick says:

Fact is 6 players have signed, heard this from a mate at the club.
Brown from Hawthorn was the first player signed.
    Ablett and Selwood have signed.
    Both Cornes have also signed.
    Harbrow has signed
Also talking to Burgoyne from Port.
Buddy is intrested but thinks he is worth as much as Ablett.
    Cotchin was not intrested.

  8. Lady StarStrucK* [Renee] says:

Honestly, I have no idea who has been contracted by Gold Coast, or West Sydney for that matter.

I’m really under-updated in this matter. The only player I know who has signed at all, is Alex Keath for Gold Coast, and that is mainly because he played in the Prime Minister’s XI game against the Windies, the U-19 cricket world cup for Australia, and commentators couldn’t find anything else to talk about.

I might just go and check a list of names that they’ve signed right now.

BQ. I would be shocked more than anything, and then probably a bit worried. But yeah, after a while I’d try to build a bridge and get over it.

  9. Crows-91 says:

Obviously us (the fans) would love to know who they’ve signed, but I think it’s smarter if they didn’t reveal it now. If they reveal it now those players are going to be in the media spotlight until GC play there first game. They’ll probably get criticised by the media for leaving there team while there still under contract.

As for your other question….Yeah I wouldn’t be to happy if any Adelaide players have signed for them. I highly doubt they’ve signed a Crows player though, you’d think they’d want a GC boy and with Tippett secured I think our only other GC boy is Moran. And let’s be honest….Moran hasn’t exactly set the world on fire.

  10. Jules says:

Roosy said the same about the GWs side – basically if the AFL believe there is nothing wrong with securing contracts now then why not announce it??

I agree with how he said it too – its cos they believe its basically underhanded even if it isnt beyond the rules

  11. adp says:

would certainly be nice to know.
I wonder how many apple carts are going to be upset…

If a gun player from the Saints is going up there..
    well…
sayonara cowboy, it’s about the team not the players for me.

  12. Richmond Faithful says:

I would love to know who they have signed!

BQ: Depends, they could have a guy like Jordan McMahon, but I suppose he isn’t considered a star. If they took someone like Deledio (Yes I know he is staying) I wouls seriously be pissed off.

  13. FORKY says:

NAH! i like surprises (as long as its not a gun carlton player thats signed) HA HA, besides nothing would be on paper so its all just speculation and rumour which the club and the alledged players could just denigh.

E.g Chris Judd was always at Carlton from midway through that year despite all the smoke and mirrors during the trade, but nothing was on paper.

  14. Dream-Team Fanatic says:

I think they should reveal the names.

For one, I’m sick of the rumours and just want to know for sure who has signed!

and also what’s the point in playing for a team when you know you’re leaving them next year?

Might as well let someone who is going to continue with the club take your spot.

I also heard something about Campbell Brown maybe signing with the Gold Coast.

Again, it could just be another freaking rumour!

  15. Jaybo says:

I think that the Gold Coast team should reveal the names. Why keep it under wraps?
It will be interesting to see what happens. when the names are finally out,

  16. Ray says:

could well be that one star player from Port is well and truly in their sights, and maybe even his brother, i am sure you have heard of the rumours concerning chad cornes, it would be surprising if one cornes brother went on his own. but at this stage of course it is just that, speculation. i think it would be fairly safe to think he has been approached. so yes, I think they should reveal who they have signed.
