Just a comment to Jill (first person that answered your question): Flight Attendant are not just waitresses in the sky. FYI, they have very intense training (usually 4-7weeks) which consists of CPR and First Aid, swimming, how to handle passengers who freak out easily…they are the ones who can save your arse and calm you down. Those are just to name a few.
It would be great to try the glamorous life of a Flight Attendant. They do pay well depending on which airline you’re working for. I know Cathay Pacific starts at around $ 22+ and Air Canada starts at $ 23+.
Cons? You will sometimes miss Christmas and all the other holidays including your family members’ birthdays, your sweetheart’s (if you have one) and etc. That is not all the time though. When I applied with Cathay Pacific, they guarantee you 75hours/month. So if you’re lucky, you can be home up to 5days in a row……goodluck! =) Its definitely a job you should try especially if you’re single. You’ll meet alot of people, go to alot of different places while not worrying about leaving your bf at home.
I would like to say that Jill (above) either has not been a flight attendant, or she has worked for crappy airlines.
If you find the right airline to work for, you will not have these problems.
I love my pay – I make more than any of my friends.
I love my schedule – working less than half of the month.
Holiday pay – At least I’m banking if I’m working the holidays.
Passengers – You find cranky people everywhere. If you are a people person, this job will be no problem.
You just have to learn about each airline to find out what it is like to work for them and not get sucked into an airline that treats their employees poorly. Emirates has a reputation of being a great airline to work for…and you have two people that can tell you all about that airline.
The pros, Your co workers they tend to make or brake you day. It is not a high paying job not unless you have put years and years in to it. Seniorty is everything. Shure you get to see some cool places or hotels for that matter because after they work you for 13 hrs. faa mandats that you only have to have 9 hours of sleep before you wake up and do it all over agin. Its not a bad job and for shure check it out give it a try but i would not want to make a life long career out of it.
Flight attending would be alright, get to see some cool places
But the jet lag and traveler’s sickness would do you in. No idea what the pay is…but man that bonus you get is SO worth it! (You should get me that!
)
The only main objection I’d have is that I wouldn’t get to see you as much
waa
hehe but it sounds like a pretty cool idea ^^
hey im 15 too well i want to be a pilot, but was looking at that as an alteritive …you get to travel the world, but ur not at home there so dont plan on a happy family life you are also responsable for many people its over all a stess free job though as you u are alway meeting new ppls
It is just a glorified waitress in the sky.
-low pay
-deal with cranky public
-work holidays
-not that many airlines are hiring (lay offs)
+it’s a job
