The media came up with this headline this week with regard to Brett Rattens future. as senior coach at Carlton if they go down to Essendon this Sunday.

If Carlton cannot produce this long awaited finals win. they have failed to produce in the last 2 seasons. where do you see his coaching future at with the Blues.

As someone said the other day.” its not like there is another club interested in his services” so what will Carlton do.

He has been out coached in the last 2 games against Hawthorn & St kilda. so i’m wondering if the Blues will persist with him.

What are your thoughts on Brett Ratten’s coaching future?

Shifty I always admired the way Brett Ratten played his footy, he appeared to me, not to be the most skilled player for Carlton, but he always showed great ‘ perserverance “and always seemed to get the job done. His coaching style perhaps mimic’s his dour attitude on the playing arena. I wish him and Carlton well for the future ( I reckon he deserves more opportunity to suceed )

Carlton remind me of the Cats in about 2004. Some very senior, good players and a bunch of young ‘could bes’.

Carlton would be made not to stick with Rats for another year – he’s produced enough. I also remember thinking that perhaps Bomber was a bit limited in his tactical skills and finals coaching.

It may depend on how they lose, if they lose!

That would require an insider tip Shifty. Also factoring in last year, when they fell apart badly the last 5 rounds.

So, firstly if they win, that would be seen as satisfactory progress, so I think he will get the one year extension.

I would say if they lose, he will be talked to, but my sneaking suspicion is he will also get the extra year. The main reason is that there is no guarantee a new coach could do any better…and they feel safer for one more year under Ratten. They would feel good about making the finals again, so they would just continue and hope for a better outcome.

As for being outcoached, yeah, I said that, but it’s a fine line..Hawks and Saints were hitting top form in those games.
