Its Monday and Yendi’s back in the kitchen cooking up some tech news. Malware virus “DNSChanger” may have affected your ability to access the internet. Star Trek The Next Generation will be out on Blu Ray and Diablo 3 bans some cheaters.

Well no matter how much you try to enhance our game with Technology. there is always going to be mixed emotions over some decisions. last night was a perfect example. press tab for link. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/129566/default.aspx

Now i don’t know about how most of you feel on this subject. but i was at that game. it looked very much like a goal to me. which was signalled by the goal umpire. then the decision was taken out of his hands. with the central umpire calling for a replay.

I have never been a fan of the use of Technology in this way. it all feels very “hanky” to me. but if the central umpire is going to start disputing his colleagues judgment. then i say do away with goal umpires. just get the Video ref to make all goal umpiring decisions. because the goal umpires jobs have just become obsolete as far as i’m concerned!

BTW{ i just want to ad that who disputes the central umpire when he makes a bad decision. now do you understand were i am coming from. where does the madness end?

It didn’t interfere with the flow of play. With the initial decision saying it was a goal, play had stopped anyway as there would be the centre bounce. As long as it doesn’t interfere with the game’s continuity, they should use the technology available but I would only use it for cases like this where there is a stoppage anyway,

Replay I watched from 2nd angle (ball not hidden by player ) appeared to glance the post and alter ball flight by maybe 15 degrees by rotational change.

I see no problem with the fixation to get things right because we have all seen exploitations eg sling tackles, which if left unchecked could ruin the game. If this technology is a pain 100 times during the year but proves itself just ONCE in determining the rightful premiership winner, I’ll be happy.

Swings and Merry-go-rounds….. 60 second game delay reduces rotations by one or more and all 36 players & umps appreciate the opportunity to catch their breath, while smart coaches will use this small window to their advantage with instructions etc.

    it was a goal :( :( :(
give brisbane the consolation win :’(
No but seriously, I’ve got to agree with you, and Voss, here. Let the game flow. I must admit at first I was fan of technology reviewing decisions. But after seeing it in action; no, it is one of those things that is good in theory but not good in practice.
“It works in cricket” they say. “It works in rugby league” they say.
Cricket and rugby league are games that stop constantly. There is time for this technology to be used. In AFL, it is completely different. It is a flowing game. Let it go. If it lloks like a goal, CALL IT A GOAL!!!

The only – ONLY – time technology review should be used in the AFL is when a decision is BLATANTLY wrong. Like Hawkins in ’09. Get the goal umpire on line and tell them to reverse it.

That disallowed Karnezis goal was just wrong. Let the game flow. – Barring a blatantly incorrect decision.

There is no point using the technology for ‘grazing the inside of the post’ or ‘hmm, i think one square millionth of a millimetre may have brushed against the paint on the pad of the goalpost there’. Just let it go.
