Fiona takes her unflavored, fermented cod liver oil right off the spoon and says, “Yummy, yummy!”

My daughter is six months old she has been weaning since she was 4 and a half months old, health visitors told me i could do so. Would it be okay if i blended home made vegetable soup with potatoes and give her it. I will be added chicken stock! Would this be okay?

if your using normal chicken stock (in the cubes etc) its not a good idea, the salt content of stock is high and not good for babies. i buy no salt stock by heinz baby. i use that in my cooking, its designed for babies and children, it has no salt and tastes just like the normal adult version.

    mum to 3.5yrold, 2,5yrold & 9month old :)

As long as your child has had all the ingredients, and there isn’t a reason to worry about allergies, you should be just fine. The stock does have quite a bit of salt, as another commenter posted, but having a lot of the broth blended with the nice soft veggies and potatoes would make it too runny, anyway. But if you are worried about the salt content, take some of the cut up veggies and steam them (the microwave steam bags are sensational), and then puree just the veggies for her without any stock.

I love making homemade baby food. It tastes much better than the jarred stuff, and my little girl loved it. (It’s also SOOO much easier than one would imagine.) Try http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com for answers about what you can feed babies when and making your own. It’s a great site.

Giving home made soup should be fine but if you are using stock made from cubes look at how much salt is in them, most aduld stock cubes contain soooo much salt, far to much for a baby.

It is best to either make your own stock or use baby stock cubes available from most supermarkets where thay sell baby food jars

edit***** wholesomebabyfood.com really is a fabulous site for good healthy baby food tailored to your babys stage of development. It will also tell you what your baby can/can’t eat at each age! Well worth taking a look!

I didnt feed my children homemade till they were a year just because the allgery rate is so high at this age. But you can make your own baby food. like mash up bananas green beans and stuff like that if your dr says it fine go for it. but make sure there is no honey, whole milk, or nuts.
