For Modern History we have to do a major personality study but I’m having trouble choosing which personality i want to do. We have to be able to talk about their personal life, what the were fighting for/against, the methods they used and their level of success, as well as discuss their historical legacy, the views of different historians and account for these views.
I have narrowed my list down to:
Matthias Sindelar
Silvio Berlusconi
Paul Breitner
Lilian Thuram
Zvonimir Boban
Wlter Tull
Benito Mussolini
Karl Marx
Miguel Cervantes
Christopher Columbus
Che Guevara
Ned Kelly
Lenin
Ayatullah Ruhollah Khomeini
Hermann Wilhelm Goring
Hugo Chavez
Hernan Cortes
Isaac Newton
Francisco Franco
I want to choose someone who is both very interesting, but easy to research and write about. I am particularly concerned about the historical legacy component of the task, because it involves consulting various historians with different views.
If anyone could help me to make a justified decision, it would be very much appreciated!

If you really want to stir things up, look into doing your report on Harvey Milk (see San Diego UT 6/12/09).
Really woke up the town of Ramona!
Good luck!
Mussolini would probably be really easy, yeah, but maybe pick someone a bit more “original”. I’d say Ned Kelly–I think he’s so interesting. Last year I read the fictional “True History of the Kelly Gang” by Peter Carey and it was really cool to hear the story behind Australia’s famous bushranger. Kelly’s story is an important one and I think you’ll enjoy learning more about him.
I would choose Mussolini. Easy to research, lots of interesting stuff.
Out of that list I would choose
Benito Mussolini – an incredibly complex man with a fascinating history.
or
Khomeni – even more complex…
but off the list I would choose
Former President of Iran….Mohammad Khatami.
Breitner, Thuram and Boban were al footballers, so hardly ‘major historical personalities’ – axe them from your list.
Of the others, Columbus is the most important, Cervantes the most interesting.
Francisco Franco , Caudillo de Espana.
